基料的种类分类：可分为有机涂料、无机涂料、有机—无机复合涂料。

　　有机涂料由于其使用的溶剂不同，又分为有机溶剂型涂料和有机水性(包括水乳型和水溶型)涂料两类。生活中常见的涂料一般都是有机涂料。无机涂料指的是用无机高分子材料为基料所生产的涂料，包括水溶性硅酸盐系、硅溶胶系、有机硅及无机聚合物系。有机—无机复合涂料有两种复合形式，一种是涂料在生产时采用有机材料和无机材料共同作为基料，形成复合涂料;另一种是有机涂料和无机涂料在装饰施工时相互结合。
